There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later. I had high hopes for this book as it came recommended through various reputable sources. To say the least I was very disappointed. It is an unorganized collection of chapters with repeated themes and disjointed subtitles. There are some fifty pages devoted to regional and national "trends" that are pure filler.

It is horrendously edited and the author's anecdotes are not particularly helpful or even mildly entertaining. What is troubling is that many of his tangents regarding government and financing contain conflicting information that is not only confusing but potentially hazardous to the novice investor.

I realize that the author is up in years but the content is inexcusably outdated. Schumacher was obviously smart enough to be at the right place at the right time.

He bought up real estate in the best location in the country during one of its biggest boom cycles. Beyond this, frankly I do not know how a man who claims to have a Phd could have possibly authored a book this poorly written and ill conceived. This is the book that helped me purchase several million dollars in rental properties. It's a great book with lots of helpful ideas and practical information. Now I share it with aspiring investors. I lost a fortune in Detroit using this method.

It may work in DC, certain areas of California, and so forth. However, this method will not work in areas of the country, such as the Midwest, where the economy has been progressively declining over the past few decades, with no end in sight. It's interesting to see the perspective of someone who started investing in the 60is. Schumacher embalished his writing with humor. I read the whole book in one seating!

This book is a reference and partial how to guide into real estate investment. The rest of the due diligence is up to the reader. People's expectations of being wealthy with one swift read of any real estate book is expecting too much. If it was that easy then we would all be wealthy already. Do not get me wrong, this book is not the be all book. That be all book in real estate does not exist. This is one book you should have in your volume of real estate reference books though. I like the concept, and his maxims in the opening pages are very good.

The author does a bad job at delivery though, often talking about examples in buying beachfront California party. He sort of uses best case scenario examples that aren't applicable to most investors' markets. This is one of those books the has several good ideas padded with pages and pages of fluff.
